Title: Great Battles of World War II
A. Author: Chris Mann
B. Main Idea: This book is mainly about the details of the WWII battles that had the most significant
impacts on the tide of the war.
C. Summary: Set across the world and during the late 1930s and early 1940s, The Great Battles of World
War II features the key leaders of the countries that led the attack against Nazi Germany. Those key
leaders include Winston Churchill (British prime minister), Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman
(U.S. presidents), and Joseph Stalin (Soviet premier). Hitler’s Germany began World War II by invading
Poland, Westerplatte, and France. These audacious actions eventually caused much of the world to
enter this horrific war. The United States tried to remain out “Europe’s War,” but it soon became an
American war as well whenever the Japanese empire conducted a surprise and devastating attack on
Pearl Harbor. The U.S. decided first to help the world defeat Germany, which the D-Day Invasion and
many other hard-fought battles greatly aided this cause. Germany eventually surrendered, but the
Japanese did not give up until the Americans developed the atomic bomb through the Manhattan
Project, which led to two atomic bombs being dropped on Japanese soil.
