King of Rome
Ancius Marcius
642 B.C. - 617 B.C.
At the death of Tullus Hostilius,
the senate appointed him as an
interim leader.
The assembly of the people
elected him king.
His first order of business was to
return religious practices back to
Rome. He did so by having them
copied down and displayed to the
public so they would never be
forgotten.
However Rome was attacked by the
neighboring Latins and this took his
focus away from religion.
He conquered the Latins and
removed them from their town. He
settled them on the Aventine Hill.
Some text say he made them
citizens others state he started the
plebian class.
He was known for founding the
port city of Ostia, and constructed
the salt works there.
