Velvet Ant
Family: Mutillidae
Commonly referred to as Cow Killers, these large, bright, furry ‘ants’ are actually
female wingless wasps. They will lay their eggs in a ground-nesting bee or wasp nest,
and the young will grow, develop, and consume its’ larval host in a matter of days.
