What is DRE?
 DRE is North Carolina’s Developmental English and
Reading program.
 Students who are not “college ready” take DRE courses
at the Community College.

 DRE 096, 097, 098 are 3 credit hours and 8 weeks each

DRE Mastery Requirements:
All classes have the same requirements:
1. Overall Course Average of 80% or above
2. Final Reading Exam grade of 80% or above
3. Final Writing Assignment grade of 80% or
above
Revisions and Retakes
 Students have one chance to revise all formal
writing assignments to enhance learning and
improve their grade.
 Students have one chance to take an alternate
version of the reading tests (including the final
exam) if they earn below an 80% on the initial test.
