Examines principles of operation, diagnosis and repair of fuel systems and
emission systems. Explains carburetion, fuel injection, supercharging,
turbocharging, fuel pumps, electronic control systems and emission controls.
Explains the use of automotive tools and testing equipments.

ENG 19 with a grade C or better, or placement at least ENG 22, or consent.

I. Decribe principles of operation of the fuel and emission systems.
II. Explain the use of automotive tools, testing equipment and safety issues for fuel and emission
systems.
III. Demonstrate principles of diagnosis, service and repair for the fuel and emission systems.
IV. Utilize the computer and other resourse to retrieve information for repairs and estimates.

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
a. Describe the fundamental principles of the 2 and 4 stroke engine.
b. Explain the proper use of automotive tools, testing equipment and safety issues
of fuel and emission system diagosis and repair.
c. Diagnose and test the automotive engine to determine repairs needed.
d. Identify, test and diagnose the automotive fuel delivery system.
e. Identify, test and diagnose the carburetor systme and its components.
f. Identify, test and diagnose the electronic fuel control systems, engine management input
and engine management output devices.
g. Identify the components of the supercharger and turbocharger systems.
h. Describe the functions of the supercharger and turbocharger and how they relate to engine
operation.
i. Identify the major pollutants that are being produced by the automobile and how they are
affecting the environment.
j. Identify, test and diagnose the components of the automotive emission system.
