5. General Course Objectives
Music 216 is a continuation of MUS 122c and continues to present the essentials
of piano playing to the intermediate performer. The emphasis is on the presentation of
concepts which can be deepened through independent study.

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Be able to play primary triads in all 12 major keys and 12 minor keys
Use primary triads to improvise accompaniments for moderately difficult pieces.
Increase individual hand control
Present repertoire development
Know many of the great works in piano literature
Present a solid practice plan
Perform 12 major scales
Know how to play all 12 major and minor chords by reading their letter name
Demonstrate proper fingering technique at the intermediate level
Understand the rudiments of basic chromatic harmony
Demonstrate knowledge of complex key signatures
Demonstrate knowledge of complex meter and time signatures
