Course Description Develops machine transcription skills for the conversion of business documents from dictated, unedited material to correctly formatted, mailable copy. Emphasizes executive, medical, legal, and technical terminology. (Formerly BCIS 181.) 3. Contact Hours/Type Three (3) Hours/Lecture/Lab 4. General Course Objectives To understand the importance of skillful machine transcription while processing words in the business world. To explore transcription career opportunities in the executive, medical, legal, and technological fields. To broaden understanding of the importance of written communication in the business world. 6. Specific Course Competencies Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to Operate a machine transcriber, and keyboard material using a word processing software. Develop grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling and other English usage skills. Transcribe executive, international, medical, legal, and technical terms. Format standard and alternate formats for basic and specialized business communication, records, and documents. Compose executive-level business correspondence. Demonstrate dictating and transcription techniques. Explain continuous speech recognition 7.
