People credited with this unit standard are able to:
 coordinate daily prisoner activities;
 supervise and monitor prisoner activity; and
 record prisoner activity.

Boundaries of unit standard
This unit standard includes prisoner needs such as food, warmth, information,
shelter, safety and security, medical, gender specific, cultural specific, spiritual.
This unit standard excludes prisoner needs that fall outside of Policy and Procedures
Manual requirements.

Definition
Prison environment – any area, within a prison site or external to a prison site where
prisoners are held, such as a cell block, within the prison perimeter, on a prison farm,
in a vehicle transporting prisoners.

Assessment range
a Performance of the outcomes of this unit standard must meet all the principles of
behaviour and criteria as detailed in the Prison Services Operations Manual
(PSOM), Department of Corrections (available at
http://www.corrections.govt.nz/policy-and-legislation/ps-operations-manual.html),
the Department of Corrections Code of Conduct, other documented national
policies and procedures, and prison-specific procedures.

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Coordinate daily prisoner activities.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Implement prisoner activities in accordance with established disposition form,
offender management plan, and/or other scheduled prisoner activities and
requirements.
1.2
Identify and coordinate internal and external staff and/or agencies that impact
on prisoner activities to ensure activities are implemented.
1.3
Coordinate any transport required for prisoner activities.
1.4
Identify resource requirements to coordinate and implement activities, and
ensure resources are available to complete activities.
1.5
Manage changes in prisoner activities to ensure minimal disruption to the
running of the prison.
1.6
Identify and implement safety and security requirements to coordinate prisoner
activities.
Outcome 2
Supervise and monitor prisoner activity.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Prisoner activity is supervised.
Range
2.2

training;
evidence of one is required.
Identify any unacceptable prisoner activity and implement required actions.

Identify opportunities for prisoner employment in consultation with external

required format and scheduled timeframe.
