Conventions of written language include spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax and paragraphing. This unit standard is Outcome 1 expiring Initiate professional contact with family or whānau. Outcomes and evidence requirements Range may include – introductions, outlines of upcoming studies, contracts, homework, seeking permission in relation to in-class or out-of-class settings, Individual Education Plans (I.E.Ps), on-going informal contact with family or whānau in classrooms; contact is made within the boundaries of school policies. Evidence requirements 1.1 Contact encourages two-way communication. 1.2 Contact acknowledges the role, responsibilities, and expectations of family or whānau. Range report must include written communication, and may include face-to-face, formal or informal communication. Evidence requirements 2.1 Report includes opportunities for two-way communication. 2.2 Report takes into account the feelings, role, and expectations of family or whānau. 2.3 Report uses language that is clear to family or whānau. 2.4 Written communication conforms to the conventions of written language. 2.5 Report comments are objective and based on evidence related to specified criteria. 2.6 Report comments are helpful in identifying future goals for learning and teaching. Outcome 3 Reflect on practices of communication with family or whānau. Evidence requirements 3.1 Reflection establishes the nature and significance of the partnership between the school and the family or whānau. 3.2 Reflection suggests strategies for addressing constraints on family or whānau participation. This unit standard is expiring Range constraints may include but are not limited to – transportation, time, childcare, confidence in school environment. 3.3 Reflection suggests strategies for establishing a meaningful role for family or whānau in their child's learning within the limitations of particular contexts. Range 3.4 limitations may include but are not limited to – age of student, size of school, school policies and procedures. Reflection identifies cross-cultural communication strategies in terms of their appropriateness to the context of the communication.
