Definition

This unit standard must be assessed in a workplace environment.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Prepare scrap for steelmaking
Evidence requirements
1.1
Scrap blend sheets are interpreted to enable achievement of technical process
specifications.
1.2
Scrap types and their locations are identified to enable scrap mix to be prepared
in accordance with company documentation.
1.3
Baskets available for filling against blend sheets are verified to enable
production schedule to be achieved.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Visual checking of baskets for any defects is completed before loading
commences and enables defective baskets to be segregated.
2.2
Layering of scrap types is carried out in accordance with company
documentation.
2.3
Type weights in baskets are within company tolerances.
2.4
Scrap blend and total weight match specifications for charge number.
2.5
Production rate matches plant requirements.
2.6
Scrap category charged is reported in accordance with company
documentation.
2.7
Communication with furnace control room is in accordance with company
documentation.
