purpose:
This unit standard is for people who are required to
understand the methodology involved in providing a sports
turf surface. People credited with this unit standard are able
to: determine the purpose and content of a feasibility study;
collect and analyse information for a sports turf feasibility
study; and present a feasibility study report.

accreditation option:
Evaluation of documentation and visit by NZQA and industry.
moderation option:
A centrally established and directed national moderation
system has been set up by the Primary Industry Training
Organisation.
special notes:

Evidence submitted for assessment must include a
feasibility study on development or re-development of a
sports turf area. The evidence must contain
documented permission from the client organisation for
the feasibility study to be undertaken.

The presentation of the feasibility study must include a
written report which is accurate, in a style and language
which meets the client organisation’s needs, and which
meets presentation standards generally accepted for
sports turf technical documentation. The report must
include site information, resource information, client
organisation expectations, improvement strategies,
timetable of events, budget breakdown, summary and
conclusions.

Determine the purpose and content of the feasibility study.

Analysis of the proposed development or redevelopment identifies factors which
justify conducting a feasibility study.

Documented findings identify the focus and extent of each of the components to
be included in a feasibility study.

factors may include but are not limited to – unique nature of the
site or site conditions, planning of resource requirements, timing
and financial considerations, extent of the work to be undertaken,
perceived strengths and weakness of the proposed venture,
information relating to the existing situation.
feasibility study components may include but are not limited to –
description of the proposed development or redevelopment
venture, relation of the venture to market need, details of personal
and physical resources involved, strategies and timing for
implementation of the venture, analysis of overall and day-to-day
operational plans and procedures, funding requirements and
considerations.
Documented findings identify how the requirements of the Resource
Management Act 1991 will be addressed in a feasibility study.

availability of specialist contracting services, materials available

developed or redeveloped, soil profile, drainage system, current
turf condition and performance history, management history,
weather data, intended use, other significant site specific factors to
be addressed.

commitment, use of facility through development or
redevelopment, involvement in project oversight, post-completion
implications for the organisation.
Documentation provides evidence of preparation of at least two alternative
development or redevelopment scenarios based on the information gathered in
the analysis process.
