context.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Assess the soil nutrient status of a selected turf area.
Performance criteria
1.1
Turf area is sampled for soil nutrient analysis in accordance with instructions
from a quality certified soil testing laboratory.
1.2
Sample is packaged, labelled, and dispatched to a quality certified soil testing
laboratory in accordance with laboratory requirements.
1.3
Soil nutrient status of a selected turf area is assessed in terms of optimum
nutrient ratios and levels for turf species.
1.4
Analysis of laboratory results identifies soil nutrient deficiencies or excesses.
1.5
Soil testing process and soil test interpretation are assessed in terms of their
limitations.
Element 2
Plan an annual fertiliser programme for a selected turf area.
Performance criteria
2.1
An annual fertiliser programme for a selected turf area is planned using soil test
results and other site specific information.
Range
2.2
site specific information – requirements of the sport, clippings
removal, wear/traffic, turf species, drainage, growing media,
disease susceptibility, length of growing season, budget
constraints.
An annual fertiliser programme is expressed in terms of kg/ha of nutrient and
fertiliser necessary to meet nutrient requirements, and is adjusted to include
corrective quantities.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
