purpose:
This unit standard is for people who are required to
prepare sports turf construction and/or maintenance
contract documents. People credited with this unit
standard are able to: explain the procedural requirements
for contracting out sports turf construction or maintenance
work. They are also able to: prepare a specification of
works; a bill of quantities and schedule of prices, and
drawings for selected sports turf construction or
maintenance work.

Definitions
Current industry practice refers to the procedures and
standards of professional performance accepted by the
industry in which the contract is being undertaken.
Applicable standards refers to NZS 3910:2003,
Conditions of contract for building and civil engineering
construction, and NZS 3915:2005, Conditions of
contract for building and civil engineering construction
(where no person has been appointed to act as
Engineer to the contract) and their subsequent
amendments or replacements.

For elements 2, 3 and 4, evidence submitted for
assessment must include contract documentation for a
selected sports turf site. The evidence must contain
documented permission from the organisation
managing the site to record information relating to that
site.
All evidence submitted for assessment must be
accurate, written in a style and language which meets
the client organisation’s needs, requirements of current
industry practice, and the presentation standards
generally accepted for sports turf technical
documentation.

which form of contract and tendering procedure used in the sports turf industry
is chosen for construction or maintenance work.

Prepare a specification of work for a selected sports turf construction or maintenance
project.

industry practice prior to compiling specification of works.

Prepare a bill of quantities and schedule of prices to accompany the specification of work.

All components of a bill of quantities are complete, accurately measured and
recorded in the required format.

Cross referencing of item descriptions in the bill of quantities to the relevant
paragraphs in the specification of work is logical and accurate.

Pricing of all items accurately reflects current rates exclusive of goods and

Drawings provide key information relating to the type and nature of the work in a
manner which minimises the chance of misinterpretation by the contractor.

survey, proposed finished site layout, site access and storage of
materials, site levels, finished levels, site boundary, all
construction, installation and maintenance work to be completed.
Information on all drawings is presented in accordance with applicable
standards.

of site, designer, scale, date, reference number of other plans,
dimensioning, symbols, identifying site features, orientation.
