This is an introductory unit standard for people working, or intending to work, in a seafood processing plant aboard a fishing vessel. Conversion factors used will normally be those from the Fisheries (Conversion Factors) Notice 2005. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Change and align the band knife of a Trio fish fillet skinning machine. Performance criteria 1.1 Band knife change and alignment is carried out in a manner which is consistent with safe operation of the factory. 1.2 Band knife change and alignment is consistent with the normal operation of the machine, and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Element 2 Set knife guide clearances of a Trio fish fillet skinning machine. Performance criteria 2.1 Setting of knife guide clearances is consistent with factory safety procedures. 2.2 Setting of knife guide clearances is consistent with manufacturer’s instructions. 2.3 Setting of knife guide clearances is consistent with specified conversion factor. Element 3 Change and align the skin and ice scrapers of a Trio fish fillet skinning machine. Performance criteria 3.1 The skin and ice scrapers are changed and aligned in a manner which is consistent with factory safety procedures. 3.2 The skin and ice scrapers are changed and aligned in a manner which is consistent with manufacturer’s instructions. Element 4 Sharpen the band knife of a Trio fish fillet skinning machine. Performance criteria 4.1 The band knife is sharpened in a manner which is consistent with factory safety procedures.
