Performance criteria 1.1 The description outlines bait placement requirements for efficient catching of the target fish species. 1.2 The description outlines the fish catching gear used for surface long line fishing, consistent with company requirements. 1.3 The description outlines the safe use and purpose of deck equipment used while setting or hauling a surface long line. Range hauler, line shooter, manual baiting equipment, seabird by-catch mitigation devices. 1.4 The description outlines the steps required to set a surface long line, from preparation of the bait through to having a set long line, consistent with company requirements. 1.5 The description outlines the steps required to haul a surface long line, from recovery of a set surface long line through to stowed catch and equipment, consistent with company requirements. 1.6 The description outlines the steps required to protect the marine environment from pollution while surface long line fishing. Element 2 Describe the construction and care of surface long line fishing gear. Performance criteria 2.1 The description outlines the importance of the proper construction and care of surface long line fishing gear. 2.2 The description outlines the construction of a surface long line in terms of suitable components, consistent with company requirements. Range 2.3 lines, hooks, clips, knots, splices, swivels, crimps, weights, floats, beacons. Element 5 Participate in the inspection and repair of a surface long line on a commercial fishing vessel. Performance criteria 5.1 Surface long line is inspected and repaired in accordance with company requirements. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
