Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to describe: the
relationship between quota shares, the Total Allowable Catch
(TAC) and allocation of Annual Catch Entitlement (ACE); and
the process of transferring ACE.

Definitions
Blue Book refers to a publication produced by FishServe to provide trading prices and
catch information from the ACE and quota share register. It can be accessed from
www.fishserve.co.nz.
FishServe is the trading name of the company that provides administration services to the
New Zealand commercial fishing industry. Information can be accessed from
www.fishserve.co.nz.
FishStock refers to a website that allows people to trade and purchase ACE. It can be
found at: www.fishstock.co.nz.
Legislation includes but is not limited to – Fisheries Act 1996 and associated regulations
such as Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, and Fisheries (South
Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
