People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe the
fishing permits and registrations required by New Zealand
seafood legislation; and prepare and submit the application
forms for the fishing permits and registrations required by New
Zealand seafood legislation.

Definitions
ACE refers to annual catch entitlement.
Legislation includes but is not limited to – Fisheries Act 1996 and associated
regulations such as Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, and
Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999.

For the purpose of this unit standard, candidates are required to select and generate
evidence for one seafood company.

This unit standard applies to commercial seafood companies who are applying to
operate under the Fisheries Act 1996.

Outcome 1
Describe the fishing permits and registrations required by New Zealand seafood
legislation.
Range
may include but is not limited to – FishServe, fishing permit, vessel registration,
transfer of ACE, transfer of quota;.

applications for the fishing permits and registrations required by New Zealand

The description includes the requirements for maintaining the currency of the
fishing permits and registrations in accordance with New Zealand seafood
legislation.

Prepare and submit the application forms for the fishing permits and registrations required
by New Zealand seafood legislation.

evidence relating to two types of application is required.

2.1
The application forms for the required fishing permits and registrations are
prepared and submitted in accordance with company requirements and New
