It provides requirements for compliance with the Building Act 2004 when constructing a new building or altering an existing one. The Building Code sets out performance standards that building work must meet and covers aspects such as structural stability, fire safety, access, moisture control, durability, and services and facilities. 4 Definitions Company requirements – include the policy, procedures, and methodologies of the company. They include requirements documented in company and site health and safety plans, quality assurance documents, and contract work programmes. Job specifications – refer to the documented information found in construction drawings, project specification documents, legislation, regulations and codes. Manufacturer recommendations – refer to product information and product data sheets provided by the manufacturer of any given product. Notifiable work is as defined in A Guide to the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (Wellington: Department of Labour, 2003); available at http://www.osh.govt.nz/order/catalogue. Site procedures – refer to the procedures which are required to be observed for safe work practices at a particular site. 5 This unit standard may be assessed against off-job. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Describe project planning activities for torch on roof membrane installation. Performance criteria 1.1 The function of the plans and specifications is described in relation to a job sheet, material schedule, and work schedule. 1.2 A work schedule is prepared for a torch on roof membrane job in accordance with job specifications. 1.3 Notifiable work activities and procedures relevant to torch on roof membrane are identified and described in accordance with Department of Labour requirements. 1.4 Work area cordons, safety notices, and notification of work signs are described in accordance with site procedures. 1.5 The purpose of an initial site meeting is described in terms of job organisation. Performance criteria 2.1 Plywood substrate laying requirements are described in accordance with the NZBC. Range joins, grain, fixing. Element 3 Describe the substrate and pre-installation preparation for torch on roof membrane. Performance criteria 3.1 Plywood substrate checks are described in terms of ensuring readiness for torch on membrane in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and the NZBC. 3.2 Concrete substrate checks are described in terms of ensuring readiness for torch on membrane in accordance with membrane manufacturer recommendations. 3.3 Compressed cement board substrate checks are described in terms of ensuring readiness for torch on membrane in accordance with membrane manufacturer recommendations. 3.4 Materials checks are described in accordance with company requirements. 3.5 Substrate joint taping is described in accordance with membrane manufacturer recommendations. 3.6 Installation of substrate ventilation is described in accordance with membrane manufacturer recommendations. 3.7 Measures to rectify any substrate defects are described in accordance with membrane manufacturer recommendations and company requirements. Element 4 Describe safety procedures prior to installing torch on roof membrane. Performance criteria 4.1 Dangerous goods and materials are identified and procedures and checks for their management are described in accordance with relevant legislative requirements and site procedures. Performance criteria 5.1 The function of substrate primer is described in accordance with manufacturer recommendations. 5.2 Placement and torching of the membrane layers is described in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company requirements. 5.3 The lap bonding process is described in accordance with membrane manufacturer recommendations. Element 6 Describe the process of taping and flashing torch on roof membrane joins and penetrations. Performance criteria 6.1 External corner flashing details are described in accordance with the NZBC. 6.2 Pipe penetration flashing is described in accordance with the NZBC. Range new, existing pipes. 6.3 A membrane to concrete wall junction is described in accordance with the NZBC and membrane manufacturer recommendations. 6.4 Membrane gutter details are described in accordance with the NZBC. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
