Special notes 1 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Building Act 2004. 2 The New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) is a schedule to the Building Regulations 1992. It provides requirements for compliance with the Building Act 2004 when constructing a new building or altering an existing one. The Building Code sets out performance standards that building work must meet and covers aspects such as structural stability, fire safety, access, moisture control, durability, and services and facilities. 3 This unit standard does not apply to metal tiles which are covered by unit standard 25286. Site procedures – refer to the procedures which are required to be observed for safe work practices at a particular site. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Describe the planning and checks required prior to re-roofing. Performance criteria 1.1 Roof inspection activities are described in terms of determining the condition and potential hazards prior to installing the new roof in accordance with industry practice. Range 1.2 includes but is not limited to – brittle materials, asbestos. Site check activities are described in accordance with site procedures. Range site preparation, health and safety checks and signs, site hazards. 1.3 Work planning sequence is described in terms of minimising impact to occupants and potential risks of exposure damage to house. 1.4 Purpose of the work sheet, plan, or job schedule is described in terms of defining the work to be done and potential hazards. 1.5 Checks of fastening lengths to ensure compatibility with existing structure are described in accordance with site procedures. 1.6 Disposal planning for the removed roofing is described in accordance with site procedures. 1.7 NZBC compliance for re-roofing is described in accordance with territorial authority requirements. Element 2 Describe the re-roofing procedure for metal roofs. Performance criteria 2.1 Process of removing existing fixings and sheets is described in accordance with industry practice. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 25281 version 1 Page 3 of 3 2.2 Storage and handling of existing and new roofing sheets is described in terms of industry practice. 2.3 Fastening methods suitable for re-roofing are compared to new installations. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
