People credited with this unit standard are able to: make ready
for four colour process work on a multi colour reel-fed press;

Prerequisites: One of the following unit standards depending
on the process being undertaken. Unit 16518, Make ready a
reel-fed printing press and print multi colour close register work
(offset process); Unit 16519, Make ready a reel-fed press and
print multi colour close register work (letterpress process); Unit
16520, Make ready a reel-fed printing press and print multi
colour close register work (flexographic process); Unit 16521,
Make ready a reel-fed printing press and print multi colour
close register work (gravure process); or demonstrate
equivalent knowledge and skills.

Outcome 1
Make ready for four colour process work on a multi colour reel-fed press.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Order of inks for process colour work is determined to meet the job
requirements.
Range
may include but is not limited to – trapping, sequence, ink tack,
absorbency and surface of substrates, dot gain effects, areas of
critical register, doubling, back trapping, final colours required.
1.2
Make ready is carried out for four colour process work.
1.3
Quality of tonal values and trapping of secondary colours is checked to ensure
that the requirements of the job and customer specifications have been met.
1.4
Make ready faults are rectified in accordance with workplace practices.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Four colour process work is printed to meet the requirements of the job
specifications.
2.2
Colour consistency standards are maintained with dry back, dot gain and ink
trapping checked and any faults are rectified in accordance with workplace
practices.
2.3
Production standards and quality are maintained throughout the print run.
