On-farm procedures – the verbal or written instructions to staff on procedures for pig health, welfare, and management. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Identify and report signs of health and ill health in pigs. Performance criteria 1.1 Signs of good health and ill health in pigs are identified in terms of the welfare code. Range physical signs, behavioural signs. 1.2 Pigs showing signs of ill health are reported to the supervisor in accordance with on-farm procedures. 1.3 Health records are maintained in accordance with on-farm procedures. Element 2 Perform preventative health procedures for pigs. Performance criteria 2.1 Equipment is prepared and used as directed in accordance with manufacturer's and veterinary guidelines. 2.2 Pigs are handled and treated with minimal stress and without injury to pigs or handler(s) in accordance with the welfare code and on-farm procedures. 2.3 Pigs are injected as directed in accordance with the welfare code and on-farm procedures. Range subcutaneous, intramuscular. 2.4 Injections are given hygienically and consistently to all animals in accordance with the welfare code, veterinary guidelines, and on-farm procedures. 2.5 Health records are maintained in accordance with on-farm procedures and legislative requirements. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
