the storage of stock items; coordinate the storage of stock;
and conduct stocktake activities.

special notes:
Stocktake of deck and engineering consumables would
include: paints, thinners, and painting equipment; cleaning
materials and equipment; fuels and lubricants; equipment
spares; tools; and wires, ropes, and cordage.
Safety procedures associated with stocktaking and storing
ship, and guidelines for handling hazardous materials and
working in confined spaces are included in current Company
and Master’s Standing Orders and Code of Working
Practice.
Mechanical means of handling stores items may include:
ships cranes, derricks, conveyer belts and chutes, hand
trolleys.

element 1
Store consumables and equipment.
Range:
consumables includes inflammable and non-inflammable consumables.
performance criteria
1.1
Consumables are conveyed to their corrected storage space and placed in
accordance with the supervising officer's instructions, and established
regulations and procedures.
1.2
Manual lifting and carriage of heavy and awkward items are carried out in
accordance with recognised safe working procedures.
1.3
Mechanical means are used whenever the load is of a weight or bulk beyond
the handling capability of individual crew members.
1.4
Storage areas are secured in accordance with the established routine
completion of the operation.
1.5
Breakages or damage to stock are reported to the supervising officer during or
immediately following the completion of the task.

2.1
Cleaning stores and equipment are conveyed to the correct storage space and
placed in accordance with the supervising officer's instructions, and established
regulations and procedures.
2.2
Hazardous cleaning materials are handled and correctly stored in accordance
with established procedures and regulations.

2.3
The manual lifting and carriage of heavy and awkward items are carried out in
accordance with recognised safe working practices.
2.4
Mechanical means are used whenever needed to transport heavy and awkward
items.
2.5
Spillages are removed and any damaged or leaking containers are reported to
the supervising officer during or immediately following the completion of the
task.

Complete stocktaking.

3.1
Personnel are made available to assist the role holder during stocktakes.
Range:
stocktakes of small inventories may not require assistance from
others.
3.2
Personnel involved in stocktakes are supervised and instructed to ensure that
the related activities are conducted in accordance with established routines and
intervals.
3.3
Inventories of stock balance are forwarded to the supervising officer on
completion of each stocktake.
3.4
Supervision and instructions given to personnel ensure that the master’s and
ship’s requirements are complied with during stocktakes and when lifting heavy
and awkward items of stock.

Coordinate the storage of consumables, equipment and resources.
performance criteria
4.1
Teams are briefed on the stores to move, their storage location, and handling
considerations.
Range:
handling considerations include – procedures, hazardous
materials, handling and storage procedures.
4.2
Heavy or awkward items are identified and mechanical resources are made
available for the transportation of these items.
4.3
Teams are briefed on the use of, and are monitored during, the utilisation of
protective clothing and footwear, where such protective means are required
when potentially hazardous items are being stored.
4.4
Reports on spillages and breakages are actioned, with the aim of cleaning up
the area and removing potential hazards within a time-frame which reflects the
severity of the incident.
