This is a theory unit standard intended for governing board
members of social service agencies or organisations.
People credited with this standard are able to describe how
to access legal information and legal services in Aotearoa
New Zealand, and identify and describe the legal
responsibilities of a governing board member of a social
service provider.

Evaluation of documentation and visit by NZQA and industry.
moderation option:
A centrally established and directed national moderation

trustee, officer of an incorporated society, or any other
who has a governing role in a social service provider,
whether paid or unpaid.

Act 1957, Incorporated Societies Act 1908,
Employment Relations Act 2000, Health and Safety in

described in terms of the provisions of the statute(s) under which one social
service provider is registered or otherwise gains its status as a legal entity.

The legal responsibilities of a governing board member are identified and
described in terms of the provisions of the founding document of one social
service provider.

2.4
The legal responsibilities of a governing board member with regard to personal
information are outlined according to laws related to confidentiality and privacy.
Range:
laws related to confidentiality and privacy - Privacy Act 1993,
Evidence Amendment Act (No 2) 1980, service provider codes of
conduct, codes of practice issued by the Privacy Commissioner.
