Enterprise procedure must comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and subsequent amendments. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Demonstrate knowledge of the construction and operation of a preform injection mould. Performance criteria 1.1 Enterprise engineering drawings are used to interpret mould operation and construction. 1.2 The principal effects of shrinkage, venting, gate balancing, and cooling on mould design and construction are described. Element 2 Carry out routine maintenance on a preform injection mould in the machine. Performance criteria 2.1 Mould routine maintenance is carried out according to enterprise procedure. Range routine maintenance may include – neck splits removal and cleaning, nozzle cleaning, hot runner valve stem cleaning, vent cleaning, component replacement, thermocouple replacement, heater band replacement. Evidence is required for five routine maintenance activities. Please note Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
