Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate
knowledge of the construction and operation of expanded
polystyrene moulds, and remove, fit, and set an expanded
polystyrene mould in an expanded polystyrene moulding
operation.

All work practices must meet enterprise health and safety requirements.

Definitions
Enterprise means an organisation where training and/or assessment is taking place,
and/or where the trainee is employed.
Enterprise procedure is defined as actions which comply with the policies, systems,
and directives in a particular enterprise. Enterprise procedure must comply with the
requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and subsequent
amendments.

Evidence requirements
1.1
The basic construction of the main components and features of expanded
polystyrene moulds are described.

systems, cooling systems, ejection systems.

Evidence requirements
2.1
The expanded polystyrene moulding machine is prepared for a mould change in
accordance with enterprise procedure.
2.2
Moulds are prepared for removal and fitting in accordance with enterprise
procedure.
2.3
Tools for mould changing are selected in accordance with enterprise procedure.
2.4
Mould change is carried out in accordance with enterprise procedure.
2.5
Mould operation is verified in accordance with enterprise procedure.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, or
an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can
report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading
to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
