This knowledge-based unit standard is one of a series intended
for people under training to gain authorisation to certify, to
European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards, the
release to service of aircraft or aeronautical components
following maintenance or repair.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate
knowledge of mathematics for aeronautical engineering (EASA
147 Maintenance). This will be evidenced by meeting the
requirements of the EASA Aircraft Maintenance Licence
examination, as mandated in European Commission Regulation
No 2042/2003.

This unit standard is aligned with the European Aviation Safety Agency Examination
Standard for Module 1 Mathematics. This can be located through the EASA website at
http://www.easa.europa.eu.

Knowledge –
will be in the context of aeronautical maintenance as defined by European
Commission Regulation 2042/2003 as follows: ‘A detailed knowledge of the theoretical
and practical aspects of the subject and a capacity to combine and apply the separate
elements of knowledge in a logical and comprehensive manner’;
will include making judgements regarding the scope, processes, and quality of
maintenance for release to service certification; and
will be in accordance with industry texts as defined by the candidate’s workplace or
enterprise.

Definition
Industry texts include but are not limited to – published aeronautical training manuals
or text books, enterprise exposition, manufacturer publications, government and local
body legislation, airworthiness or regulatory authority requirements.

The principles of arithmetic are described and their applications are explained in
accordance with industry texts.
may include but is not limited to – arithmetic terms and signs; basic
calculations, fractions and decimals; conversion of units; ratio and
proportion; averages and percentages; roots and powers.

1.2
The principles of algebra are described and their applications are explained in
accordance with industry texts.
may include but is not limited to – algebraic expressions and
calculations; solving linear equations; negative and fractional
indices; non-decimal numbering systems; simultaneous equations,
second degree equation with one unknown.

The principles of geometry are described and their applications are explained in
accordance with industry texts.
may include but is not limited to – geometrical constructions;
graphical representations, nature and uses of graphs;
trigonometrical relationships; use of tables; rectangular and polar
coordinates.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.

to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The
