Explanatory notes
1 Definition
Exercise techniques refer to how exercise tasks are done, including the form the body takes when doing exercises.
2 Facility policy and procedure refers to the operations manual or documented normal operating procedures at a fitness facility.
3 All activities must be consistent with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.
4 The candidate must be assessed instructing a class of at least five participants.

Evidence requirements
1.1 Demonstrate a basic knowledge of martial arts techniques as applied in cardio
Martial Fit classes.
Range must include but is not limited to
– jabs, punches, no locking of joints, kicking and punching combinations, breathing, core activation, synchronising kicking and body movements, choreographing technique.

The basic exercise techniques used in a cardio Martial Fit class are described in terms of the muscle groups used, the key joints involved and the placement, path and alignment of body parts in accordance with the class plan.
Range muscles groups must include but are not limited to – biceps, triceps, brachioradialis, quads, hamstrings, calves, lats, traps, delts, glutes, core including rectus and transverse abdominals, obliques, pecs.
1.3 Methods with which to screen participants, and contra-indications to look for are implemented according to facility policy and procedure.

Outcome 2 pre-exercise screen, range of motion testing.
Instruct a cardio Martial Fit group fitness class.
Evidence requirements
2.1 Warm up techniques are safely and effectively demonstrated in accordance with the class plan.
Range dynamic stretches, high repetition of movements, full body stretch.
2.2 Kicking and boxing exercise techniques are safely and effectively demonstrated in accordance with the class plan.
Range demonstration must include but is not limited – flow of movement, tempo; techniques demonstrated must include but are not limited to – front kick, side kick, round kick, front knee, jab, cross, hook, upper cut, one elbow strike, push ups, abdominal exercise, squat exercise, lunge exercise.
2.3 Observations of individual participants are described and class is safely managed in accordance with the class plan.
Range modifying, talking to the individual, motivating, cueing; may include but is not limited to
– taking a break, stopping the class.
2.4 Exercise modifications and corrections of techniques are communicated to promote safety in accordance with the class plan.
Range constant observation, repetition of safety instructions, physical or verbal adjustment, on stage, off-stage, cueing.
