People credited with this unit standard are able to: explain the values and philosophy upon which community development is based; explain the role of a community worker in relation to community development processes; apply principles and processes of community development to a project; and explain the processes of community development and how these relate to the project. Evidence requirements 1.1 The explanation identifies the historical context of community development. 1.2 The explanation describes the philosophy of community development as a developmental tool. 1.3 The explanation describes the values and processes of community development. Outcome 2 Explain the roles of a community worker in relation to community development processes. Evidence requirements 2.1 The explanation describes the skills required for the roles of a community worker in terms of community development processes. Range 2.2 roles – advocacy, education, identifying issues and meeting expressed community needs, facilitating projects, coordinating community activities; skills may include but are not limited to – facilitation, advice, communication, negotiation, leadership, public relations, evaluation, management, budgeting and accounting, research, networking, fundraising, practical and/or technical arts skills. The explanation relates the required skills to the roles of a community worker. Outcome 3 Apply principles and processes of community development to a project. Evidence requirements 3.1 The project principles and processes are identified. 3.2 A project brief is developed and describes the project and its objectives in accordance with the identified principles and processes. 3.3 A project plan, which outlines steps to achieve the objectives, is prepared in accordance with the identified principles and processes. 3.4 The project is implemented in accordance with the project plan. Outcome 4 Explain the processes of community development and how these relate to the project. Evidence requirements 4.1 The explanation identifies the processes of community development used in the project. 4.2 The explanation relates the identified processes to their practical implementation.
