and repair faults in escalator and moving walks control
systems; and carry out completion work on escalator and

Definition
Worksite procedure refers to the documented
procedures for the machine and/or worksite.
Statutory requirements may include but is not limited to
the relevant sections of the New Zealand Building Code
and the relevant standards such as the New Zealand
Standard (NZS) 3000:1997, Electrical Installations Buildings, Structures and Premises, and European
Standard EN115:May 1983, Safety Rules for the
Construction and Installation of Escalators and
Passenger Conveyors.

All work practices must meet recognised codes of
practice and documented worksite safety procedures
(where these exceed code) for personal, product and
worksite safety, and must meet the obligations required
under current legislation. Legislation includes but is not
limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act
(1992), and its subsequent amendments.

Prior to any work being undertaken with any lubricant,
the substance must be identified from the
Manufacturers’ Material Safety Data Sheet and the
specified precautions complied with.

To gain credit in this unit standard evidence must be
provided of competence in the diagnosis and repair of
faults in the following escalator and moving walks
control systems: field wiring systems, solid state
circuits, micro-processor and digital control systems.

specifications and worksite procedure.

Running equipment is inspected in accordance with work requirements,
manufacturers’ specifications, and worksite procedure.

Conclusions about the cause of the fault are determined from the available
evidence and remedial action identified in accordance with manufacturers’
requirements and worksite procedure.

The faulty system is isolated and faulty, worn, damaged, or insecure
components are replaced, repaired or secured in accordance with
manufacturers’ specifications and worksite procedure.
