People credited with this unit standard are able to describe
and set up reducing equipment; and reduce soles and
insoles to industry specified performance and company
quality standards.

special notes:
Specified industry performance is 55% BSI performance or
equivalent. BSI performance is the British Standards
Institute internationally recognised performance system
(BS3138) where 100% is the standard expected from a
competent fully qualified performer using the correct
methods and taking the allowed rest, working briskly, and as
though on an incentive. Other comparable rating or
performance systems such as the 60/80 system are
acceptable, with the appropriate performance adjustment.
Company safety requirements conform to the Health and
Safety in Employment Act 1992.
Competence may be demonstrated on soles or insoles
depending on company requirement.

Describe and set up reducing equipment.

Machine parts are identified and described in terms of function and operation.
Range:

Machine is set up and adjusted to product specification and work ticket
requirement.
Range:
feed adjustment, roll pressure, take out pressure.

Selected die roll matches product specification, work ticket, and company
requirements.
1.4
Magazine setting matches requirements for left or right sole, or insole.
1.5
Worn and damaged knives are identified, reported, and replaced according to
company requirements and practice.
1.6
Machine is set up, tested, and adjusted to meet materials and product
specification and work ticket requirements.
