People credited with this unit standard will be able to assess and determine the requirements for maintenance of
plant health in a given horticulture venture; determine and
implement relevant monitoring strategies; and implement
maintenance strategies using chemical and alternative
options within safety and environmental requirements.

Open, but it is recommended that knowledge and skills in the
areas of plant physiology, use of chemicals in horticulture,
alternative plant health maintenance options, monitoring and
control methods, and planning be gained before seeking
credit for this unit standard.

teaching professional in the same field from another

A centrally established and directed national moderation

Determine likely health problems for plants and crops to be grown.

Health problems are identified and defined for individual crops and species
being grown.
Range:

Assessment of environmental factors determines which plant health problems
may be generated by the growing environment.

temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind, frost, soil type and condition.

Determine strategies for maintenance of plant health in identified conditions.

Action thresholds are determined for each plant health problem identified.
2.2
Knowledge of plant health management techniques is applied to develop a plan
for each crop and specimen.

Plan development includes consideration of non-chemical based procedures
and adoption where appropriate.
2.4
Final plan selection is based on assessment of plan options against identified
criteria.
