Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of the purpose of, and preparations required for, undertaking maintenance of a yarn splicing machine. Evidence requirements 1.1 The yarn splicing machine requiring regular maintenance is identified. 1.2 The operation of the machine is described in accordance with the operating manual. 1.3 The key components of the machine are identified in accordance with the operating manual and manufacturer’s instructions. 1.4 The purpose of carrying out regular maintenance is described in terms of the impact it has on production. 1.5 The nature of the maintenance is described in accordance with workplace procedures, the operating manual and manufacturers’ instructions. Outcome 2 Carry out maintenance on the machine. Evidence requirements 2.1 Appropriate personnel are notified when any maintenance is required in accordance with workplace procedures. 2.2 The machine is dismantled using specified tools in accordance with the operating manual and workplace procedures. 2.3 Critical zones and components are inspected in accordance with the operating manual and workplace procedures. 2.4 Any faulty parts identified, are replaced or modified, in accordance with workplace procedures. 2.5 Any scheduled maintenance is performed in accordance with maintenance schedule. Outcome 3 Restore the machine to operating condition. Evidence requirements 3.1 The machine is reassembled in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. 3.2 The machine is operated in accordance with workplace procedures to verify it is running correctly. 3.3 Maintenance records for the machine are updated in accordance with workplace procedures.
