Explanatory notes 1 It is intended that all outcomes of this unit standard arise out of a group situation involving collaboration between two or more people in an acting or non acting role. 2 Outcomes 2 and 3 must relate to the same theatre movement or style. The exploration and direction may take into account costume, design, rehearsal, performance and venue. 3 Definitions Theatre movements and/or styles, in the context of this unit standard, include but are not limited to - Greek and Roman Theatre, Mediaeval Theatre, Commedia Dell’arte, Elizabethan Theatre, Restoration Theatre, Realism and Theatre of Ideas, Modern Theatre, Musical Theatre, Theatre of the Absurd, Theatre of Cruelty, Theatre of the Oppressed, Theatre of the Poor, Physical Theatre, Māori and Pacific Islands Theatre. Group, in the context of this unit standard, involves two or more people in an acting or non acting role. Evidence requirements 1.1 Research identifies the distinguishing features of three theatre movements and/or styles. Range 1.2 examples of features may include but are not limited to – performance aspects, purpose, relationship with audience, performance environment, form, text medium. Research describes the historical significance of one theatre movement and/or style within the context of the history of theatre. Outcome 2 Prepare to direct a scene from a theatre movement and/or style. Range one scene from a theatre movement and/or style. Evidence requirements 2.1 Preparation defines the purpose of the movement and/or style in relation to the selected scene. 2.2 Preparation identifies and explains one method of presenting a scene from theatre movement and/or style. Outcome 3 Direct scene of theatre movement and/or style. Evidence requirements 3.1 Direction includes the preparation of objectives for intended presentation. Range objectives – individual, ensemble. 3.2 Direction and presentation reflect form and genre appropriate to movement and/or style. 3.3 Personal direction and group presentation are evaluated against objectives in terms of strengths and aspects requiring further development.
