Explanatory notes 1 It is intended that the performance piece, from research planning to presentation, be a group activity guided by an adult teacher and/or tutor. 2 Evidence of the candidate’s individual contribution to the performance activity (and achievement of the criteria) should be supported by presentation of a portfolio. The presentation may be written, oral, practical, or combination. 3 The performance piece, selected to suit a specific audience, could be chosen either by the candidate’s teacher or tutor, or by the candidate in consultation with the teacher or tutor. 4 Definitions A performance piece, in the context of this unit standard, could be a scene, a short one act play, a devised work, a dance-drama, or a collection of any of songs, poems, prose. Specific audience, in the context of this unit standard, could be a primary, intermediate, or secondary school class or assembly; or a group of business persons, senior citizens, special needs persons, or new immigrants. Evidence requirements 1.1 Audience situation is identified by research, and described. Range 1.2 may include but is not limited to – age, hearing, language, special needs. Performance purpose and performance boundaries are identified by research, and described. Range boundaries - time, length, venue, available resources, audience sensitivities, rehearsal planning. 1.3 A presentation concept is devised that is consistent with performance purpose and audience. 1.4 Rehearsal schedule is devised in order to achieve intended purpose and realise presentation of concept. Outcome 2 Prepare the performance presentation for specific audience. Evidence requirements 2.1 Preparation includes the completion of organisational planning activities required for the performance situation. Range 2.2 Preparation includes the completion of planning for possible audience responsiveness. Range 2.3 examples must include but are not limited to – resources, programme preparation, identification of roles and responsibilities. examples may include but are not limited to – safety, contingencies, audience needs, audience participation. Preparation shows commitment to rehearsal process. Range examples may include but are not limited to – learning of lines, active participation in rehearsal, responsiveness to refinements, support for ensemble objectives. Outcome 3 Carry out a performance role in the presentation. Evidence requirements 4.1 Self evaluation identifies personal contribution to the research, creation, and preparation phases of the presentation piece development process in terms of strengths and development opportunities. 4.2 Self evaluation identifies personal contribution to the performance of the presentation piece in relation to the intended performance purpose and concept and in terms of strengths and development opportunities.
