Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: set up and
operate the automatic stacker equipment in accordance with
workplace practices; notify designated crew of the presence of
any faults identified; and follow safety requirements for the
equipment being used.

Explanatory notes

personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the
obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment
Act 1992, Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, Resource
Management Act 1991, Privacy Act 1993 and their subsequent amendments.

workplace.

The process for defining and calculating warp percentage for the purposes of
assessment is as follows – when a warped board is laid on a level surface so as to
form a shallow arch, the maximum vertical deviation from the horizontal is expressed
as a percentage of the board dimension that forms the arch. Warp is assessed at
take-off, and thus excludes ‘post-warp’.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Set up and operate the automatic stacker equipment in accordance with workplace
practices.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Requirements for the sequence of switch-on routines and checks are explained
in terms of the equipment being used.
1.2
Stops and/or back stops are set to meet job requirements.
1.3
Any failure by stops or backstops to accommodate board dimensions is
reported immediately in accordance with workplace practices.
1.4
Edges of shingles are parallel ensuring a straight stack is achieved.
1.5
The corrugator is operated in accordance with workplace practices.

Notify designated crew of the presence of any faults identified.
Range
faults are defined as and may include – warp exceeding 2%, splices, blisters,
wrinkles, cockles, loose corrugations, cut, fractured and otherwise damaged
corrugations, highs and lows, leaning flutes, crushed flutes, misalignment
exceeding 1mm on trimmed board, misalignment exceeding 5mm on untrimmed
board, dry streaks, any form of delamination and lack of adhesion whether
extensive or localised, washboarding, wet board, green bond, zipper board,
indentations, scuff marks, cuts at creasers, any other forms of marks on or
damage to liners, untrimmed board, badly trimmed board, unslit board, missing
creases, failure of board to bend at creases, too many creases.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Procedures to be followed in the event of faults identified are described in terms
of workplace practices.
2.2
Faulty boards are not stacked without immediate reference to designated crew
in accordance with workplace practices.
2.3
The lamination of at least one board per pallet load is checked for ‘fibre tear’.
