NZQA registered unit standard 23568 version 2 Page 1 of 2 Title Demonstrate basic knowledge of landfill operations Level 2 Credits Purpose 2 This unit standard is for people who are currently working, or who intend to work, in the solid waste industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate basic knowledge of landfill operations. Classification Solid Waste > Solid Waste Disposal Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes Definitions In basic terms means using simple language to show an elementary understanding of essential concepts, facts, processes, and principles. Detailed knowledge of such things as the chemical structure of leachate is not required. Controlled waste refers to waste types designated in the site management plan as requiring special attention. Site management plan refers to documented guidelines and procedures for operations at the site. It includes consent conditions and legislative requirements. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate basic knowledge of landfill operations. Evidence requirements 1.1 Gate and weighbridge operations are outlined in basic terms. Range 1.2 Landfill cells are described in basic terms. Range 1.3 restrictions on access, weighing of waste, spotting, records. cell construction, prime objectives, filling of new cells.
