Outcome 1
Describe the key principles of palliative care.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Palliative care is defined in terms of the references.
1.2
The differences between palliative care and terminal care are described in
terms of their focus.
Range
evidence is required of two differences.
1.3
A palliative approach to care is described in terms of its key underpinning
principles.
1.4
The concept of ‘total suffering’ is described in terms of its place in a palliative
approach to care.
Outcome 2
Describe a support worker’s role in a palliative approach to care.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Challenges present in palliative care are described in terms of their impact on
the support worker, and the person being supported and/or their family/whānau.
Range
2.2
evidence is required of two challenges each for both the support
worker, and the person being supported and or/their family/whānau.
Support worker’s role in a palliative approach to care is described in terms of
their role in an interdisciplinary team.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies
to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMRs). The
CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing
to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors
and assessors, and special resource requirements.
