NZQA registered unit standard 3172 version 7 Page 1 of 3 Title Produce an item by resin injection for composites Level 4 Credits 7 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare for producing a composite item by resin injection; produce a composite item using resin injection; and carry out safety precautions while producing a composite item by resin injection. Classification Composites > Industrial Composites Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Equipment refers to applicators, dispensers, measuring devices, cutters and cleaning utensils. Process specification refers to the documented order and method of applying the materials to manufacture the item (time, materials, temperature, application rates). Specification requirements refer to the documented requirements of the manufactured item. Worksite procedures refer to the documented procedures for the machine and worksite. 2 All worksite procedures must meet recognised codes of practice such as the Code of Practice for Health and Safety in the Manufacture of Composites Based on Synthetic Resins (Fibreglass), Composites Association of New Zealand, 1998. This code, and other relevant codes of practice, are available from the Composites Association of New Zealand, PO Box 75 345, Manurewa, Manukau 2243, or at http://www.osh.dol.govt.nz/order/catalogue/composites.shtml. They include obligations required under current legislation. All worksite procedures must also meet documented worksite safety procedures (where these exceed the code) for personal, product and worksite safety. 3 This unit standard does not cover low pressure (less than 0.5 bar) resin injection or vacuum assisted resin transfer moulding. Please note Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Consent requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
