Definitions
Manufacturer’s instructions refers to specifications and/or instructions provided by the
manufacturer for the correct installation and operation of the product(s) provided by
that manufacturer.
Industry practice refers to the ability to work under supervision, demonstrating
knowledge that reflects the uniformity, finish quality and material economies currently
accepted by the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation’s National
Advisory Group for the concrete trade.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of portable power tools as used in concrete work.
Range
ten portable power tools from the industry specific list for candidate’s own
sector.
Performance criteria
1.1
Portable power tools are identified and their purpose described in accordance
with manufacturer’s instructions and industry practice.
1.2
Procedures for maintaining portable power tools are described in accordance
with manufacturer’s instructions and industry practice.
1.3
The safe use of portable power tools is described in accordance with safe
operating procedures, manufacturer’s instructions, and industry practice.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
