Definition

Different types of concrete are described in terms of their effect on the sawing
process.

Different types of equipment used for concrete sawing, and their components,
are described in terms of purpose and function.
Range
1.3
floor saw, hand saw, bar saw, wall saw, ring saw, wire saw;
components for each type of saw.
Factors relating to the job to be done are explained in terms of their effect on
selection of concrete sawing equipment.

depth of cut, type of material, site or situation of cut, site
conditions, security of cut portion, required accuracy.
Setup of concrete sawing equipment for a specified job is described in
accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, job requirements, and workplace
practice.

attachment of blade guard, setting angles (parameters), slurry
control, mounting to anchor (if required), aligning to specified cut.
Operation of concrete sawing equipment for a specified job is described in
accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, job requirements, and workplace
practice.

water volume, motor speed, correct feed pressure, slurry control,
ensuring security and safety of cut portion during and after
operation.

Shutdown, blade extraction, and dismantling of concrete sawing equipment are
described in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, job requirements, and
workplace practice.

Inspection for damage, cleaning, and lubrication of concrete sawing equipment
and components are described in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions,
job requirements, and workplace practice.

an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can
report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading
to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
