The last date for assessment of this qualification is 31 December 2019 when the qualification will be discontinued. People currently working towards this qualification may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2019 or transfer their results to the replacement qualification. People who provide these services are called Well Child workers. Other terms that may be used in Tamariki Ora – Well Child services include Community Health Worker; Community Well Child Health Worker; Kaiāwhina; Kaitiaki; Plunket Community Karitane; and Plunket Kaiāwhina. People awarded this qualification are able to demonstrate skills for working with families or whānau; describe human development and manage health conditions; provide interventions to achieve whānau or family health goals; implement a health promotion strategy; support a whānau or family to access local community services; and act as an advocate for people; within a Tamariki Ora – Well Child service provider setting. People awarded this qualification are able to integrate knowledge, skills, and values learning in Tamariki Ora – Well Child service work. This qualification also recognises an understanding of the meaning and relevance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in social service work because Well Child workers' practice is informed by Te Tiriti as well as boundaries set by national specifications for the Well Child Framework, ethical practice, and legislation. This qualification has strands that prepare people for working within Mainstream, Māori, and Pacific Tamariki Ora – Well Child services contexts. At this stage there is no higher level qualification on the National Qualifications Framework for Well Child workers. People who have completed this qualification could progress to one of the national diplomas in the social services, such as the National Diploma in Counselling (Level 6) [Ref: 0988]; the National Diploma in Iwi/Māori Social Services (Level 6) [Ref: 0667]; the National Diploma in Social Work (Level 6) [Ref: 0989]; or the National Diploma in Youth Work (Level 6) [Ref: 0670]; or gain entry into nursing or health science qualifications. Special Notes People who have completed the Plunket Kaiāwhina or Plunket Community Karitane Programmes may be granted Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for unit standards in this qualification. Candidates for RPL may either apply to accredited providers or to Community Support Services ITO Limited (Careerforce). Award of NQF Qualifications Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in the Qualifications Authority Rules and Procedures publications available at www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (Id). Any version of a standard with the same Id may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the Id and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
