Purpose
This unit standard has been designed to be achieved in a building,
construction and allied trades skills (BCATS) programme.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the civil infrastructure industry within a BCATS environment.
Performance criteria
1.1
Major sectors of the civil infrastructure industry are identified, and described in
terms of the scope of work undertaken by a civil infrastructure worker.
Range
1.2
Common work processes undertaken by civil infrastructure workers are
identified and described, and reasons for the processes are explained.

construction of structures, road construction, road maintenance,
bitumen surfacing, culverts and drainage, trenching, kerb and
channel, roadmarking.
Potential clients of a civil infrastructure worker are identified and the nature of

described in terms of crossover and compatibility.

their impacts on the work of civil infrastructure tradespeople are described.

authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
