This unit standard is for people who are involved in automotive
reglazing.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare to
install a side window panel in a van; mark out, and cut
van panel and trim, and prepare cut edges using
template; install side window glass in a van; and clean
work areas and maintain window installation equipment.

Definitions
Worksite requirements – refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which
are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace.
These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and
procedures, work instructions, product quality specifications, legislative requirements.
Manufacturer’s specifications – refer to industry requirements that relate to the
products being supplied or used.
Materials and equipment – refer to industry approved materials and equipment that
are recognised within the industry as being the most suited to complete the task in a
professional and competent manner with due regard to safe working practices.
Personal protective equipment – refers to equipment designed for the protection of
eyes, hands, feet, and hair.
Van – refers to caravan, vehicle, horse float, canopies.

Evidence requirements
1.1
Job requirements are determined from job specifications in terms of method to
be used, and materials and equipment required.
Range
job specifications include but are not limited to – window size,
shape and position; materials; VIRM glazing requirements;
maintaining vehicle structural integrity.
1.2
Vehicle preparation requirements are determined in accordance with the job
specifications.
1.3
Health and safety requirements are identified in terms of personal protective
equipment, materials and equipment requirements.
1.4
Materials and equipment required for the installation are selected in accordance
with glass manufacturer’s specifications.
1.5
Procedures for minimising waste material are identified in accordance with
worksite requirements.
Outcome 2
Mark out and cut van panel and trim, and prepare cut edges using template.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Panel to be cut is marked out and checked to ensure the structural integrity of
the vehicle will be maintained, in accordance with the template and the vehicle
manufacturer’s specifications.
2.2
Panel and trim are cut in accordance with the job specifications and vehicle
manufacturer’s specifications to maintain vehicle structural integrity.
2.3
This unit standard is

3.2
Window glass is installed in accordance with manufacturer’s and job
specifications.
3.3
Sealant and/or adhesive is applied in accordance with manufacturer’s
specifications.
3.4
Installation is completed without causing damage to equipment, or vehicle or
injury to personnel.
3.5
Vehicle and/or windows are cleaned and prepared for customer vehicle
collection in accordance with worksite requirements.
3.6
Warranty and safety information is communicated to the vehicle owner in
accordance with legislative and worksite requirements.
3.7
Side window installation is documented in accordance with worksite
requirements.
Outcome 4
Clean work areas and maintain window installation equipment.
Evidence requirements
4.1
Re-usable materials are identified and stored in accordance with manufacturer’s
specifications and worksite requirements.
4.2
Waste and scrap materials are removed from the work area and disposed of in
accordance with worksite requirements.
4.3
Work area is cleaned and inspected and left in a safe and serviceable condition
in accordance with worksite requirements.
