Purpose
This unit standard is for people who work in the automotive
refinishing industry. Those credited with this unit standard are
able to: demonstrate knowledge of vehicle paint damage; book
in work; and interpret job sheet and inspect and identify the
damage on the vehicle.

1
When the evidence requirements state to the 'acceptable industry standard', it is
assumed that it complies with the product and vehicle manufacturers' standards.

Because of the particular nature of this unit standard it is essential that assessment
be carried out in a commercial workplace under normal working conditions.

Demonstrate knowledge of vehicle paint damage.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Paint types and finishes used on vehicles are identified according to paint
manufacturer's specifications.
Range
1.2
OEM (original equipment manufacturer) finishes, air dry enamel,
two pack paints, lacquer, water borne;
single layer metallic, solid colour, clear over base, pearl finishes,
special finishes;
stripes and graphics.
Causes of paint damage are identified according to the acceptable industry
standard.
Range
collision, application, preparation, environmental, vandalism,
corrosion, oxidation.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Customer is greeted courteously according to the acceptable industry standard.
2.2
Customer and vehicle details are obtained.
Range

vehicle identification number (VIN), work required, odometer.
Information is passed on to supervisor according to the acceptable industry
standard.
Outcome 3
Interpret job sheet and inspect and identify the damage on vehicle.

Job sheet is interpreted according to the acceptable industry standard and no
damage is missed.
3.2
Vehicle details are identified and noted to enable paint and materials to be
procured according to vehicle manufacturer's specifications and the acceptable
industry standard.

Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task.
