Purpose
This unit standard is for Department of Internal Affairs VIP Transport Service
chauffeurs.
People credited with this unit standard are able, as chauffeur for a VIP to:
carry out pre-drive procedures; demonstrate appropriate driving; and
demonstrate appropriate conduct.

Any new, amended, or replacement Acts, regulations, Rules, standards, codes of
practice, or Land Transport New Zealand requirements or conditions affecting this
unit standard will take precedence for assessment purposes, pending review of this
unit standard.

The vehicle used in this assessment must be a sedan or a station wagon with a
gross vehicle mass not exceeding 4500 kilograms.

Competency for this unit standard may be demonstrated in on-job or in a simulated
situation that closely reflects on-job requirements.

Definitions
Organisational requirements refer to the procedures and/or standards for chauffeurs
employed by the Department of Internal Affairs VIP Transport Service.
VIP refers to people required to be chauffeured by VIP Transport Services. VIPs
include government ministers, diplomats, visiting overseas dignitaries, their spouses
and/or partners.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Carry out pre-drive procedures as chauffeur for a VIP.
Performance criteria
1.1
Personal presentation is in accordance with organisational requirements.
1.2
Vehicle is prepared in accordance with organisational requirements.
Range
cleanliness, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, communications
equipment, documentation, flag or pennant.
1.3
Attention to any special safety procedures is in accordance with organisational
and assignment requirements.
1.4
Vehicle arrives at pick up point prior to pick up time, in accordance with
organisational requirements.
1.5
As and where required, passenger or passengers are greeted and seated, and
assistance is provided with luggage, in accordance with organisational
requirements.
1.6
Seat belts are checked to be secure for all occupants.

Element 2
Demonstrate appropriate driving as chauffeur for a VIP.
Performance criteria
2.1
The standard and quality of driving facilitates passenger ease and comfort, in
accordance with organisational requirements.
Range
2.2
indicating, positioning, accelerating, cornering, speed, braking,
stopping.
Vehicle is parked in accordance with organisational requirements.
Element 3
Demonstrate appropriate conduct as chauffeur for a VIP.
Performance criteria
3.1
Any interaction with the passenger or passengers is in accordance with
organisational requirements.
3.2
As and where required, passenger or passengers are assisted to exit, and
assistance is provided with luggage, in accordance with organisational
requirements.
3.3
Required logbooks are filled out and pennants displayed are stowed away in
accordance with organisational requirements.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
