A vehicle is defined as any light or heavy vehicle, and
may include two or four wheel drive vehicles.

All activities must comply with the policies, procedures,
and requirements of the enterprises involved and any
relevant environmental, legislative and/or regulatory
requirements which include but are not limited to the
Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (HSE),
Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation, and Compensation
Act 2001, and their subsequent amendments and
associated regulations.

Unit 18137, Hire and manage stock of vehicle chains.

Fit and remove vehicle chains.
performance criteria
1.1
Site is selected taking into account ground surface, slope gradient, traffic flow,
and the safety requirements of driver, passengers, public, and chain-fitter.
1.2
Vehicle is made ready for chain fitting and removal.
Range:
parking of vehicle, use of park brake and gears, hazard lights,
signage, points person, check on the serviceability of chains.
1.3
Tyre chains are selected to match tyre manufacturer’s fitting specifications.
1.4
Tyre chains are fitted to the drive wheels and tensioned in accordance with
chain manufacturer’s specifications and safety practices.
1.5
Tyre chains are removed in accordance with safety practices and without
damage to tyre, vehicle or chain.
