Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to explain the
purpose of a records management system in the context of a
public sector organisation, and operate a records storage and
retrieval system in a public sector organisation.

Explanatory notes
1
This unit standard is intended for people who are employed in the public sector and
evidence should come from within the candidate’s workplace.

Definition
Public sector refers to the State sector (central Government), including the Public
Service, crown entities, non-uniformed staffs of the services and forces, offices of
Parliament; and all local authorities (local Government), including local authority
trading enterprises (LATEs).

Performance of outcomes of this unit standard must comply with relevant current
legislation:
Public Records Act 2005;
Evidence Act 2006;
Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992;
Human Rights Act 1993;
Privacy Act 1993;
Official Information Act 1982.

standard. These will be reflected in the organisational policies and procedures
relevant to the public sector organisation in which the candidate is employed.

requirements.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses

NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
