Purpose
This unit standard is for people who work, or intend to work, in
the heating, ventilation and air conditioning sector of the
engineering industry. People credited with this unit standard
are able to: prepare a maintenance schedule for a chilled water
system; inspect and carry out maintenance on the chilled water
equipment and plant; check the controls function; monitor
maintenance of the system; and complete maintenance
documentation.

Critical health and
safety prerequisites
Prerequisites: Unit 3200, Integrate chilled water systems
components, Unit 3846, Maintain commercial and light
industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems, or Unit
3847, Maintain industrial refrigeration systems or demonstrate
equivalent knowledge and skills.
Explanatory notes
1
Legislation, regulations and codes pertaining to the maintenance of mechanical
services are to be complied with.
2
Knowledge of the operating principles of refrigeration systems is also recommended.

Outcome 1
Prepare maintenance schedule for the chilled water system.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Maintenance schedules and report formats for the system are prepared in
accordance with company policies and procedures, and meet client’s
requirements.

1.2
Maintenance schedules and reports comply with legislative requirements and
are consistent with building code standards.
1.3
Maintenance schedules and reports comply with operating and maintenance
specifications laid down in system documents.
Outcome 2
Maintain chilled water system components, controls and operation.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Chilled water system components are inspected at the intervals specified in the
maintenance schedule.
2.2
Chilled water system components are maintained to the specifications and
standards laid down in the maintenance schedule.
2.3
Control functions and system operation are tested and adjusted to perform
within the tolerances and ranges maintenance schedule.
2.4
Required follow-up action is arranged in accordance with the maintenance
schedule.
Outcome 3
Complete and monitor chilled water system maintenance documentation.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Maintenance reports are completed and actioned in accordance with system
documents.
3.2
Maintenance schedule and report formats are periodically reviewed, revised and
verified as accommodating changes in system or equipment characteristics or
changes in legislative requirements.

This unit standard, unit standard 3217, unit standard
3218, unit standard 3219, unit standard 3220, unit
standard 3221, and unit standard 3223 have been
replaced by unit standard 26338.
This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place
before the expiry date set out below.
