environment who are learning basic glass skills.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate
knowledge of the primary manufacture of float glass, and other
glass types.

Definition
Primary manufacture – refers to the manufacture of glass from raw materials and not to
the manufacture of specialised products from glass.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the primary manufacture of float glass.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Primary manufacture of clear and tinted float glass is described in terms of the
key stages in the manufacturing process.
1.2
The characteristics of float glass are identified and described in terms of their
key components.
Outcome 2
Demonstrate knowledge of the primary manufacture of other glass types.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Primary manufacture of a range of glass types is described in terms of the key
stages in the manufacturing process.
