This unit standard is intended for people who are working in a pastoral livestock production system and recognises the skills and knowledge necessary to take responsibility for implementing a livestock pastoral feeding plan in a farming workplace.

Explanatory notes
1 Learners must implement an existing livestock pastoral feeding plan that they may not have been involved in creating.
2 Evidence presented for assessment against this unit standard must relate to a farming workplace.
3 The livestock pastoral feeding plan and its implementation must comply with the
Animal Welfare Act 1999, the Resource Management Act 1991 and relevant codes of welfare available at http://www.mpi.govt.nz

4 Demonstration of understanding may be assessed in a number of ways, which could include the ability to complete practical tasks, if it is clear that the understanding is essential underpinning understanding to the task/s, and that the task/s could not be completed without the learner having that understanding.

2.1 Calculates daily and weekly feed allowances according to feeding plan requirements.

2.3 Adapts feeding practices based on measurements of pasture quantity and estimates of pasture quality.
2.4 Optimises quantity, quality and utilisation of pasture to ensure soil and pasture sustainability.
